About Us…

Our small but mighty foundation has supported a wide range of services and activities over the decades serving both large and small organizations. From funding ophthalmologic fellowships at our nation’s leading medical centers, to allowing blind students to experience the freedom of downhill skiing, the foundation supports a diverse range of programs and activities conducted by our grantees. We are particularly proud of our support of programs that assist under-served communities in DC, including services to those well below the poverty line and seniors experiencing vision loss.

The Aid Association for the Blind is organized for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes relating to blindness and low vision.  The organization’s mission is to: “Fund organizations serving people who are blind or have low vision in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area.”

Aid Association grants are made for public charitable purposes only to organizations that are tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the US Internal Revenue Service Code.  The Aid Association for the Blind does not make grants to individuals or to endowment funds.  We support general operating funds as well as specific projects.
